INDULGENCE ART

indulgence - lee price

Lee Price creates realistic oil paintings, that show women and food in their intimate and private settings. The pictures are self-portraits of her, getting excessive with food that is considered indulgent, forbidden, or comforting. Her works addresses the intersections of food with body image, addiction, and unabating desire.
Lee Price states: ‘In this society, there’s so much pressure for women to be thin. We’re not supposed to have appetites – and not just for food, but for a lot of things. We’re the givers and not the consumers, and I think some of my recent paintings are about the women staring at the viewers and saying, ‘I’m not going to censor my appetite’.

The realism of the oil paintings is one thing but the realistic and rawness of what is actually in the image and the stories it tells us. It take a completely new approach to food in art and reveals the most private, somewhat gluttoness acts of women. It exposes women in a sense that females are known for 'eating there feelings' and turning to food for comfort and i feel lee prices artwork really reveals this .  The artwork creates scenes such as a woman binging in bed with macdonalds or feasting on pancakes in her bath it really creates a narrative in each single piece of art.

gluttonous glamor shots

Featured in its April 2012 issue, the 'Polish Cuisine' K MAG editorial is wild and over-indulgent. Breaking common stereotypes, Rebel model Alex proves that models do eat. With pink-toned locks by Emil Zed and sultry makeup by Zosia Krasuska, the model is glamorous, while retaining a youthful edge.

Captured by Agata Pospieszynska, this gluttonous fashion story showcases the best in traditional polish foods, including decadent pastries, filling perogies and blood-red soups.

Styled by Aleksander Dobrzynski, Alex wears a mix of affordable and luxe pieces from H&M, Maldoror, Ania Kuczynska, Malene Birger and ZUO Corp among others. From sheer and simplistic shirts to embellished frocks and lingerie looks, the daring 'Polish Cuisine' K MAG shoot is ornate and over-the-top.

Eating and fashion are not usually two terms that are synonymous with each other, but these fantastic food editorials incorporate edible props into each shot in unexpected ways. The fashion world is consistently slammed for its painstakingly thin models and long list of designers who only create clothes for the thinner population. With that said, these editorials take a step away from the norm when it comes to fashion photography and capture models actually taking a bite.

Moreover, these food-incorporated editorials use food as props or even use various creations as clothing. Eating is necessary for survival, but so often the act is pushed to the sidelines in the fashion world to focus on clean lines and a more heroin-chic lifestyle. These shoots, however, combat against this and embrace the natural.
